Lower and Middle School Learning Specialist

Job Purpose:
To plan, organize, and present instruction and content that helps students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Job Description:
Tahoe Expedition Academy is looking to expand our student support team to include an additional learning support specialist to support our Kindergarten through 8th-grade students.
This learning support specialist will work closely with our Lower and Upper School Learning Support Coordinators and teachers across these grades to identify and support the needs of our students across a variety of subject areas.
The learning support specialist will engage in individualized or small-group instruction.
The role of the learning support specialist will include managing a caseload of students, administering assessments, developing and implementing learning goals and support plans, tier 2-3 instruction, consulting regularly with teachers, and communicating regularly with parents.
We are looking for a learning specialist with a deep understanding of how children learn and child development experience in supporting students, teachers, and parents as they navigate neurodiversity and individualized learning plans with confidence and success.
This learning support specialist should have specific training, skills, and experience with selecting and conducting appropriate assessments and developing individualized learning plans based on assessment data or existing diagnoses.
The successful candidate for this position will have experience working with students with language-based learning disorders, dyscalculia, executive functioning, attention, memory, and pace-of-learning issues.
Ideally, the person in this position would also have classroom experience with younger students.
Essential FunctionsInstruction/Curriculum:
Delivery of pull out, high-quality lessons and units in line with curricula of the school with the aim of addressing the varied learning needs of individual students and educating the whole child.
Support core teachers in student's educational opportunities that need additional staff support through pushing in on classroom instruction and fieldwork.
Provide support in delivering instruction in other ways as needed.
Co-teach lessons when needed and provide classroom management support.
Employ varied approaches to support student progress on an ongoing basis.
Collaborate with Crew Leaders to build and implement plans for differentiated classroom instructionHelp in attending, organizing and carrying out fieldwork and project-based studies to support the curriculum as needed.
Push into classrooms to provide scaffolding for individual students and support teacher needs.
Progress monitor students regularly, using data to inform instructional decisions and support teachers in doing so.
Take on other duties such as morning and lunch supervision.
Assessment:
Provide formative and summative feedback on progress to students, parents, teachers, and faculty in a timely manner.
Administer diagnostics to identify specific areas of need and use data to inform instruction.
Assess students.
Designate targeted goals and objectives for student improvement in specified areas of need.
Regularly track, document, and communicate student performance, achievement, and diagnostic metrics with teachers, parents, and the Student Support team.
Conduct continual needs assessments for the school in regard to academic support.
Maintain up-to-date documentation regarding student skills, progress, and knowledge in accordance with school-established guidelines.
Communication:
Follow-up on parent communications within 24 hours in conjunction with the lead teachers.
Communicate with outside professionals and implement interventions based on the recommendations of outside professionals whenever possible.
Collaborate with and support the core teachers in representing the school to families and the school community.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in education or related subject is preferable.
A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the School.
A clear enjoyment of working with children and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking in English, including excellent verbal and written skills.
Ability to work well with students and colleagues and a willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the CommuniTEACommitment to equity and inclusion.
Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Willingness and ability to work in a demanding environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in outside weather conditions consistent with Lake Tahoe area weather conditions.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
